ABOUT THE DESIGN:
This tattoo represented freedom - a ship that has sailed. The sun setting on the horizon was also a widespread tattoo that showed a longing for freedom. This particular tattoo could represent family or lover left behind. It was popular with both men and women.

On the chest, a popular anti-authority tattoo but it has double meaning as do many other tattoos from that era. The letters underneath Lenin spell VOR, the Russian word for thief (which Lenin definitely was). But the letters are also an acronym that stand for Leader of October Revolution. So if an inmate was hassled by administration, he could always state that he was just really patriotic

Each hoodie also has the "MIR"logo on the front pocket. "MIR" is the Russian word for "peace", but in the criminal world it's an acronym that stands for "Menya Ispravit Rastrel" which translates roughly to "Execution will Reform Me".
