ABOUT THE DESIGN:
On the front is a very popular tattoo that was widespread in Russian during the mid 20th century. The scene is one that usually represented freedom or longing for freedom and the word on top is "Sever" which means North in Russian. North meaning Siberia and surrounding territories, which is where most of the camps were during that time. Later on, this tattoo became popular with people that lived in the Northern part of the country. This simple yet powerful image was like a national trademark of old Russian ex-cons and the North in general.

On the back is the MIR Eagle logo. This Eagle was a powerful anti-establishment and anti-administration symbol during the 50's and 60'. The eagle conveys the message "Strike first, Dont wait for them to hit you!"
MIR is a Russian word for "world". But its an acronym for "Menya Ispravit Rastrel" meaning "Execution will Reform Me"
